Noah (נֹחַ,‎ נוֹחַ in Hebrew) was a Prophet.

History Edit

Noah was the son of Lamech, and one of the only (possibly the only) righteous men left on earth during the time in which he was living. The rest of the earth was rotting with vile men. Since he was the only good man left, God told him to build an ark, with specific specifications, and bring with him two of every animal (and seven of every clean animal) on the ark, because He was going to flood the earth.

It took Noah several years to build the ark and gather all of the animals, but eventually borded the ark with his wife, their three sons, and their wives. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights, covering the entire world in water up to the tallest of mountains. Then Noah sent out a raven and then later a dove to tell him if it were safe or not for them to leave the ark.

When it was, Noah had made a burnt offering to God, a pleasing aroma to His nostrils. God then created a rainbow, establishing he would never again flood the entire earth, creating the Noahic Covenant.

Later on, Noah planted a vineyard and drank the wine from the vineyard, becoming drunk and then laying down in his tent, naked. According to tradition, Noah was the first person to ever be drunk, and Satan was to blame for them being intoxicating. Ham the son of Noah found him laying in the tent, and told his brothers, so they covered him up. When Noah awoke, he flipped out and cursed Ham and his descendants, the Canaanites.

Noah died at the age of 950, and his sons were dispersed to go about the earth and repopulate it.

Etymology Edit

Noah means "rest."
